Plaid?BY DENIZ, 5 September 2010 Well, I can see it, but I don't know if anyone else can - This view is from Astoria Park in Queens, looking out onto Randall's Island and the road leading off of the Triboro Bridge. not to be confused with ice cream - no noooo - The neighborhood where I live is ethnically very mixed - and I particularly love the mishmash of cultures here. This sign - which I am posting in honor of the holy month of Ramadan - is for freshly slaughtered chickens, the deed done according to Islamic tradition. Bismillah means in the name of Allah in Arabic, pollo vivo means live poultry in Spanish, and of course the sign just had to be red white and blue!
Yep, that's what it is - just a pole standing tall, on Madison Avenue. HotBY DENIZ, 31 August 2010 Ligor, at the tail end of his first summer - Alo?BY DENIZ, 30 August 2010 Look, it's dial-a-dessert! (I can't believe I didn't take pictures of the food - gee, I guess I have to go back to Little Italy again) It's quite a terrifying work of art, but I do believe it's art nonetheless - This, off the No. 7 train - I can't get enough of Queens, because it's so full of surprises. Take, for example, this weird area that is primarily made up of junkyards, situated right next to the new Mets Stadium. Its official address is Willets Point, but its nickname is the Iron Triangle. It apparently has barely a sidewalk, and no sewers - ! If you have an iPhone, there's an app called Pano. It allows you to take series of photos and then seamlessly fuses them together. Here, while I was waiting for a train, I snapped a few going from the bottom up. When I turned the image sideways, I loved what I saw. Voila!Click on the picture if you would like to see it just a bit bigger - You might also want to cross your eyes ever so slightly to see the image as a completely abstract one ;-) In some cultures, it's considered bad luck not to wear red shoes when getting married. Here, a bride is walking toward her wedding photo shoot - or should I say strutting? - in high style!
